From Domestic and Sexual Violence is a regional provider of comprehensive support and advocacy for survivors of domestic/dating/teendating/sexual violence, trafficking and stalking; as well as the regional provider of sexual violence and rape prevention education. Our staff are recognized as regional and statewide leaders in the field. HAVEN provides a 24-hour crisis line, emergency response and shelter, individual/medical and court advocacy, information and referral, support groups, prevention education, bi-lingual/bi-cultural services for Spanish speakers, and training for professionals. HAVEN is the only provider of services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence in our four-county service area of Wasco, Sherman, Gilliam, and Wheeler; although 80% of our clients are from Wasco County. Our main facilities are located in The Dalles.

Safe Kids Columbia Gorge

Car Seats - Car seats safety classes are held monthly in The Dalles and Hood River to residents of either county. Classes are free. Reduced cost seats are available to WIC (Women, Infants and Children) eligible families who complete a class and learn proper car seat installation. Registration is required by calling the WIC office at North Central Public Health District or the Hood River County Health Department. If you have a seat that you would like checked for proper installation and safety, Email safekidscg@gmail. com

Bicycle and Wheeled Sports Safety - Helmets and fittings are available for children at MCMC, Skyline Hospital and Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital Emergency Departments or Sherman County EMS.

Water Safety - Life jacket loaner boards are available at many locations along the Columbia Gorge. Visit www.nwp.usace.army.mil/Missions/Recreation/Columbia/ for locations. Children and adult life jackets are available on a first come, first served basis.


Columbia Gorge CASA

Columbia Gorge CASA recruits, trains and supervises community volunteers to advocate for local kids in foster care. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) are appointed by judges to be their eyes and ears and ensure that the child’s needs are being met while in foster care. Volunteers spend on average 10-15 hours per month and are asked to make a commitment through their first case. CASA volunteer training are offered 3 times per year (fall/winter/spring). CASA training consists of 6 weeks of combined in-person and on-line learning using a dynamic interactive curriculum that includes guest speakers. A pre-training interview, application and background check are required prior to the start of training.

Bridges to Health Pathways Community HUB Program

Bridges to Health is home visiting program for families struggling with housing concerns who are living in Hood River or Wasco County. When a household is enrolled in the Bridges to Health Pathway Program, you will have a Community Care Coordinator to assist you. They can help connect you to needed services including health care, dental care, clothing, food, transportation, housing or others.
