A program of The Next Door, Gorge Youth Mentoring seeks to change the lives of children for the better, forever. Our volunteer mentors work one-on-one with Mentees ages 6 – 21 to build confidence, develop skills, and have fun. After a thorough screening process, Mentors are professionally matched with Mentees with whom they share common interests and compatible personalities. Once matched, Mentors and Mentees spend about eight hours per month together for a minimum of one year. Activities vary but often include going on hikes, cooking dinner together, trips to the movie theater, and art projects.

There is no cost to the Mentees or their families, and GYM match coordinators are there to support the match every step of the way with monthly phone calls, fun quarterly events, outing ideas, and more. GYM helps children achieve success in school, helps them avoid risky behaviors such as fighting and trying drugs and alcohol, and helps improve their self-confidence.
